Together with his mother Elvira, Robert Hansen travels to India to pick up his now two-year-old niece Suri from her surrogate mother. While Elvira is excited by the thought of soon being a grandmother, the pragmatic Robert acts more out of a sense of duty. He only recently learned of the girl’s existence while sorting through the records of his sister Anke, who died in an accident. Now he believes he has to fulfill Anke’s last wish: He wants to bring Suri to Germany and take care of her.<\/p>\n

After their arrival in the holy city of Varanasi, they learn that the little girl has suddenly disappeared: Ganesh, the ex-husband of surrogate mother Parvati, has kidnapped the child. Supposedly because he wants to protect Parvati, who belongs to a lower caste and lives in poor circumstances. Because as the mother of a blonde and fair-skinned girl, she is ostracized by those around her.<\/p>\n

Only reluctantly does the cautious Robert set off in search of the kidnapped child. But when he sees Suri, the spitting image of his deceased sister, for the first time, there is no doubt in his mind: he must save his niece. Together with Parvati he takes up the pursuit across the Ganges. However, his mother knows nothing about Robert’s adventurous journey. Worried about her son, she finds comfort in the German dropout Fluppe.<\/p>\n
